Riga, the most important Baltic City

Most tourists arrive by plane at the international airport, which was modernized in 2001, coinciding with the 800th anniversary of the city.
The city is connected by ferry between Stockholm, Kiel and Lübeck.
. Riga used to be served as a port for trade with the Baltic tribes and with Russia. In 1282 the city became a member of the Hanseatic League.
Latvias capital, largest city in the Baltics, is a fascinating mixture of proud Latvian tradition and influences of the various countries that have occupied it. Again independent since 1991, the center of Riga, Art Nouveau-style is a UNESCO world heritage site.
